Story 27 | Wandering Apothecary
Mark and Raphaelle (@borealfolk)
Originally from Ottawa, Mark and Raphaelle met four years ago while in Vancouver. Both Mark and Raphaelle sought livelihoods that gave them the ability to live and travel freely.
Raphaelle’s adventures started in her late teens on a backpacking trip to Asia. Throughout her twenties she split her time between planting trees in the Canadian wilderness and traveling with a 50 liter backpack. “I became accustomed to living a very free life, void of material objects but rich in adventure.”
During the summer that Raphaelle and Mark met, he was living out of a Purolator van. They began adventuring together, enjoying the simplicity and freedom of the road. Soon afterwards they decided to convert the van into their home and start living in it full time.
They quickly grew out of the Purolator and with Mark’s experience working on antique vehicles they decided to purchase a 1967 MCI bus and convert it into their home and “office.” Boreal Folk Apothecary goods are made in their formulation studio, fondly referred to as “the wilderness lab”--a fully off grid, 14 foot trailer that they tow behind the bus. The couple incorporates wild foraged plants into their skincare line that is made with all natural and organic ingredients.
Raphaelle and Mark live this lifestyle for the freedom it provides them. More than anything they love being deep in the wilderness, waking up in the middle of nowhere, exploring new places and living in rhythm with the seasons.
As part of sharing their story, Mark and Raphaelle have put together a product pack (made from wild plants as part of their travels) as a giveaway for you all. We will be hosting the giveaway on our instagram.
